Hemp is truly a golden goose.

You can make clothes from it, its seeds are a superfood, and you can even make construction materials with it.

But the most valuable thing we can make from hemp is plastic.

Not a plastic replacement — but real plastic.

That’s probably why, according to Fortune, the hemp industry will be worth 47.82 billion U.S. dollars by 2032

The problem with hemp was that its farming was — and still is — illegal in many places around the world.

However, a few countries are legalizing the cultivation of industrial hemp around the world. The U.S. did it in 2018, India followed in 2018 as well, and many European countries have legalized hemp farming as well.

And many of those European countries are now home to market leaders in the space. So, let’s meet the top 10 hemp plastic manufacturers in Europe.

Let’s get started.

1. The Hemp Plastic Company

The hemp plastic company

Hemp plastic products they make:

  • Hemp Ethylene (HDPE)
  • Hemp ABS
  • Hemp Polylactic Acid (PLA)

Why they’re among the top hemp plastic manufacturers in Europe:

THPC was started in 2018 in the USA — the very same year hemp cultivation was legalized. Since they were one of the first movers in the market, they managed to expand to Europe very early on.

Since then, they have consolidated a large market share in the continent.

That is why the Hemp Plastic Company is one of the top hemp-based plastic producers in the EU.

On an industrial scale, THPC mainly supplies automotive and consumer goods hemp plastic products.

2. LATI Industria (LATI Plastics)

Hemp plastic products they make:

  • Hemp PLA
  • Hemp HDPE
  • Finished Consumer Goods (B2B)

Why they’re among the top hemp plastic manufacturers in Europe:

LATI Industria is one of Europe’s top players in the plastics space, and they’re not just limited to hemp plastics either. LATI Industria (the parent company) was one of the earliest companies in the biodegradable plastics industry in Europe.

You see, though they didn’t have their production, LATI was one of the first movers in Europe to resell hemp plastic products.

Interestingly, before The Hemp Plastic Company (mentioned above) started in Europe, they would distribute their products through LATI.

3. Unyte Hemp

  • Hemp Biocomposites (To-Order)
  • Hemp Polymer Sheets
  • Hemp Polymer Filaments
  • Hemp Polymer pellets (For injection/blow moulding)

Why they’re among the top hemp plastic manufacturers in Europe:

Unyte Hemp is a UK-based hemp company that aims to do “all things hemp”. The company is a wing of the Unyte group of companies that have various other businesses around the country. From Unyte, you can buy anything from nutrition and plastic to textiles and paper. The company does not sell B2C and is mostly focussed on industrial applications of hemp products.

4. MAMCO Biospec Hemp Moulding

Hemp plastic products they make:

  • Hemp-filled plastics (90%+ hemp plant parts)
  • Biodegradable resins
  • Bioplastics (To-Order)

Why they’re among the top hemp plastic manufacturers in Europe:

MAMCO Molding is one of the more unique firms on our list. MAMCO started as one of those eco-friendly plastic companies in Europe. A lot of these had cropped up after the 2015-2016 climate reforms.

They had initially aimed to source cleaner plastic that didn’t have quite as much carbon in it.

Then later, they shifted to becoming a hemp plastics company. Today, MAMCO will be able to help you with B2B hemp products, but also a whole lot more. They can set up your hemp engineering department, your supply chain, your logistics, and even design custom packaging for you.

5. The Earth Project by EIR Health

Hemp plastic products they make:

  • Hemp PLA
  • Lactide

Why they’re among the top hemp plastic manufacturers in Europe:

EIR Health is a pharma company that sells hemp-based medicines in Europe. However, they recently launched a new drive, called “The Earth Project”. TEP is a hemp plastic manufacturer that will take B2B orders on demand.

Currently, they don’t have a supply network for the plastics, as the project was just started, but expect that to change in the near future.

TEP could be ready for business orders as early as mid-2025. With its previous history in the industry (through pharma), EIR Health is sure to be one of the most successful hemp-based plastic makers in the EU.

6. The Hemp-It Cooperative

Hemp plastic products they make:

  • On a Case-To-Case basis

Why they’re among the top hemp plastic manufacturers in Europe:

The Hemp-It Co-operative Society is Europe’s largest hemp cooperative. They mainly focus on supplying other hemp companies (like the ones on this list) with high-quality hemp seeds.

They’ve got the seeds down to a fine art, and can give you seeds specifically for fiber, biomass, textiles, and more. To get the most biomass, you’d use hemp varieties focussed on shives. In this regard, Hemp-It offers you the Futura 83 seed line and the Muka 76 seed line.

Notwithstanding that the company won’t directly sell you hemp plastics, they still provide consulting services if you’re setting up a business. There has been talk of them breaking into the B2B space in the near future though.

7. Hemp Innovations

Website: https://www.hempinnovations.bio/

Hemp plastic products they make:

  • Hybrid Plastics
  • Hemp PLA
  • Hemp-infused plastics

Why they’re among the top hemp plastic manufacturers in Europe:

Hemp Innovations, just like the Unyte group we brought up earlier, has a whole host of hemp products under its belt. They make a lot of things from hemp, including textiles, building materials, and plastic.

Their hemp plastics arm is called, rather creatively, HempPlast. You can contact the company to get a custom quote for your requirements, as they don’t publish a price list.

But it’s safe to say that since they deal so much with hemp, and with all aspects of the plant, they’d be experts in the area.

8. Hemporium

Hemporium

Website: https://hemporium.uk/products

Hemp plastic products they make:

  • Hemp plastic 3-D printing filament
  • Consumer-grade goods (B2C)
  • Consumer-grade goods (B2B)

Why they’re among the top hemp plastic manufacturers in Europe:

Hemporium UK was started by a gentleman named Andrew Phoenix, out of Manchester. Though the company itself doesn’t produce any hemp plastics, they help you source the hemp plastic products you need.

It’s become a hemp-industry phone book.

All the who’s-who suppliers of any kind of hemp product in the area will be listed with Hemporium. If you’re looking for something hyper-specific, like “sustainable hemp plastic packaging makers in Europe”, then Hemporium is the place to look.

9. Hemp Traders (Hemp King)

Hemp traders

Website: https://www.hemptraders.com/

Hemp plastic products they make:

  • Hemp Polymer Plastic
  • Finished B2C goods

Why they’re among the top hemp plastic manufacturers in Europe:

Hemp Traders, like so many other companies on our list, provide a great many hemp products. It just so happens that one of those product lines happens to be hemp.

Their hemp plastics range is fairly limited when compared to their other product lines, but it’s still well-established. This brand is the only one on our list that is more focused on the consumer than on business sales.

Like a lot of other hemp manufacturers, they also provide consulting services, including for the hemp plastics sector.

10. The Hemp Foundation (UK Branch)

The Hemp foundation

Website:

Hemp plastic products they make:

  • Affordable consumer-grade products

Why they’re among the top hemp plastic manufacturers in Europe:

The Hemp Foundation is an Indian startup that has taken that region of the world by storm. The company is as focused on social-good as it is on hemp production. The Hemp Foundation has, quite possibly, the most unique business model on this list.

While the other companies are concerned most about efficiency, yields, and cost-cutting, THF is helping rural farmers every single day. They’ve managed to strike that perfect balance between making a profit and giving back to society.

Hemp in India used to be very much a tribal farming thing, but cultivation bans have stripped these tribes of their livelihood. Now, THF is helping them get it back, and making high-quality hemp plastics in the process — a win-win situation.

And that’s it folks, those were our top European hemp bioplastic suppliers. The industry and sector are still very nascent, and very young.

That’s why there aren’t too many home-grown companies in Europe — for now.

But all that should change in the very near future. A lot of companies are realizing the benefits that industrial hemp has. As such, a lot of them are legalizing, or attempting to legalize some form of industrial hemp cultivation.

The future is hemp — you just need to make sure you’re on the bus when it leaves.
