Even with all the proof in place, world cotton consumption increased by 0.9% in 2018-19. The consumption rate is at the highest level since 2007-08. This is where the celebrities come in to vouch for a sustainable livelihood to encourage their followers to accept this change.
The United States recorded 14.1 million acres were used for planting cotton in the year 2018-19. Out of the planted acres, only 10.5 million acres of cotton were harvested in the same year. Imagine the amount of water and pesticides polluting the earth because of this production.
The harms of cotton are echoing across the country, leading to a number of places reducing their cotton production. However, Brazil has increased production while China has kept the same pace.

Statistics by the U.S. Office of Textiles and Apparel (OTEXA) records America imported hemp textiles worth $1.9 million in 2017. The data of the same year shows the U.S. also imported 312 tons of hemp yarn.
