Hemp is a young industry in India. It was only in 2018 that farmers were legally allowed to grow hemp.
In 2019, Hemp Foundation began its journey with a core team of three co-founders.
That makes us almost as young as the industry itself. But with this youth comes excitement—and responsibility.
So, we are humbled by the opportunity to shape and nurture the future of this industry from its earliest days.

2019: Planting Seeds
Our journey began in 2019. Our founder Vishal was on a trek through the remote mountains of Uttarakhand. He saw the struggles of families living in poverty. He also saw how hemp grew wild on even barren lands.

2020: The Reality Check
The pandemic brought the world to a halt. We had no option but to press on. We started training programs to teach farmers about growing hemp. This effort created jobs and brought people back to their villages. This ‘reverse migration’ was the reversal of a 50-year trend!

2021: The Power Of The Village Woman
Women became the heart of our mission in 2021. We offered them opportunities in hemp farming. Soon they became self-reliant. What’s more, they became stronger voices in their communities. These efforts earned recognition from Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University. We knew the times ahead would be exciting.

2022: An Army Of Farmers
In 2022, we held workshops and hands-on sessions to spread eco-friendly farming practices. More farmers joined the movement. We were able to turn dry, empty fields into lush green hemp farms, full of life and promise.

2023: Seeing the Change
By 2023, the impact of our work was clear. Villages once struggling to survive began to thrive again. People returned home to work on their lands. Once-barren fields were alive with hemp crops.

2024: Looking Ahead
Throughout 2024, our focus has remained strong. Hemp is now globally seen as a vital pillar of a sustainable future. We are grateful for being a voice that people are keen to hear at international conferences.
