We Can Make Difference

Let’s Start Now

Uttarakhand has seen mass migration and most of the villages are either uninhabited or full of old men, women, and children as male members have moved to cities in search of jobs. Though these families have small farms they don’t do farming as animals destroy their crops. 80% of the farmers have left farming in the hills of Uttarakhand. This is why we utilize hemp crops for hemp fabric and being a hemp fabric manufacturer, distributor and hemp fabric wholesale supplier, we make lots of different fabrics with the help of these hemp crops.

We want to change this problem is an opportunity for these people. Though logistics is very hard, due to unmaintained mountain roads traveling to the nearest market or city is a nightmare. Practically no industry exists in these mountains. We traveled to dozens of remote mountains, trained these great women in their traditional craft of weaving, sewing, accessory making, and provide them jobs and above all an identity. And because of their collective work Hemp Foundation is a leading Hemp fabric manufacturer, wholesaler and hemp fabric distributor in US and Europe.

We have created a value chain and involved hundreds of women in farming (hemp farming is less labor-intensive), retting of hemp plants, degumming, carding, sewing, handlooms, etc. We believe that women are like the roots of the tress, if you empower a woman she will empower an entire community around her. We train them in marketing, quality control, etc., and give them a platform to sell their products at a fair price.

We are a hemp fabric Manufacturer and wholesale supplier on low MOQ. We can do screen print, digital print, tie and dye, natural/organic dyes ( GOTS certified), machine and hand embroidery on the bulk hemp fabrics wholesale orders on woven hemp fabrics as well as bulk knit hemp fabric.

Every inch of hemp fabric or hemp clothing on these pages comes from beautiful remote Himalayan villages of Uttarakhand, India made by love and care by these hard-working women. These women from the mountains are already very beautiful and at heart but now they are making the world a better place by promoting the most sustainable plant on earth.

Our fabrics are traceable, ethically produced and sourced & sustainably produced.

With every purchase on this website, you spread love and lessen your carbon footprint.

There are numerous ways to differentiate between knitted and woven fabrics. • Look: The most apparent difference between the two fabrics is the way they look. In the case of a knit fabric, a single yarn is used continuously which gives a braided look. On the other hand, a woven fabric is produced by multiple yarns that cross one another at right angles, giving it an interlaced look. • Wrinkle: The wrinkle test is by far one of the most effective ways to evaluate a fabric. To perform this test take a small sample of the fabric and ball it into your fist. If the material springs back to normal with little or no creases, there are chances that the fabric is knit, if not it should be a woven fabric. • Stretch: Another common test to know if the fabric is woven or knit is stretching. A knit fabric stretches easily across its length and width. If stretched too much the fabric might lose its shape. On the contrary, a woven fabric barely stretches along the width but might stretch a bit across its length.

Hemp plant’s stalk is made from long strands of fabric. These strands are extracted from the plant using a process known as retting. Then, the extracted strands are spun together to create threads, which are then used to make fabric.

Heat & water moisture are the main causes of clothes wrinkling. Clothes made from fibers like hemp, cotton, linen, etc are more prone to wrinkling compared to clothes made from cellulose-based fibers like bamboo, rayon, etc. There are structural & chemical differences in various fibers. These determine which fabric gets creased more and which less. Now, hemp fiber fabrics tend to wrinkle – but much lesser than linen. So, the effort it will take you to remove creases from your favorite hemp clothing will be much less than what it would take you to remove the same from linen fabric. The convenient way to remove these creases from hemp fabric is by steam ironing. The ironing will be even more effective if the cloth is slightly damp. If it is dry, moisten it or use some spray starch, and then iron it, setting the iron temperature to medium. Do this, and watch the creases vanish!

There are many points of similarity between these three plant-based fabrics, but there are several points of difference also. Cotton fabric comes from the cotton plant, hemp fabric from hemp plants and linen from flax plants. That is a difference that stares one in the face, but that does not help you differentiate one from the other. Cotton fiber derives from the ball that develops around the seed. Both hemp and linen are products from the stalks. That is another important technical difference that will not be of help in distinguishing the fabrics in a marketplace. Let’s be clear about one thing: it is not easy to differentiate one of these fabrics from the others by the naked eye. Experts say that the fibers look different under the microscope, but we generally don’t go fabric shopping with a microscope in a backpack. The feel of the three fabrics is different when they are in their pure form. But we hardly ever get them in the purest form in the market as they all go through different forms of treatment. That makes differentiating them even harder. There isn’t really much to differentiate them other than the labels. But there are important differences nevertheless. • In the pure form, hemp fabric is the coarsest to touch. • Cotton has a maximum elasticity among the three. • Both hemp and linen will grow softer and more fluid with every wash. • Hemp fabric is the most durable among the three and retains its shape better than the other two. • Hemp fabric has maximum breathability among the three. • Hemp fabric has antibacterial properties and is naturally more resistant to moth and mildew.

This is a controversial issue really. There are those who argue that natural fibers and fabrics are all similar in their biodegradability and eco-friendliness. There cannot be any measure of more or less naturalness. Then there are others who argue that hemp fiber and fabric are the most natural because of several reasons. Without taking a side, we present you the reasons these proponents of hemp fiber and fabric advance in support of their claim: • Hemp plants grow very closely together so that no weeds can grow in between. That ensures that no chemical herbicides are necessary for de-weeding. • Hemp plants are naturally insect resistant. That means no pesticides are necessary. • Hemp fiber and fabric are naturally resistant to mildew and moth. They do not need any treatment for that. • Hemp plants are the most eco-friendly as they help maintain the quality of the topsoil and need very little water to grow

Hemp fabric can be purchased from reputed hemp fabric wholesale suppliers with proven and tested quality, the best option being Hemp Foundation. Hemp Foundation is the largest exporter and wholesale suppliers of hemp fabric, hemp oil, hemp hearts, and derived products. The company produces and sells organic hemp with no added chemicals and comes with quality certification.

There are a number of reasons as to why hemp is better than polyester and cotton. Hemp V/s Cotton • Cotton yields one-third of hemp for the same amount of land. • Cotton uses more natural resources such as water and nutrients to grow. • Cotton takes more time to grow. Hemp V/s Polyester • Polyester is an artificial fabric. • One of the by-products of polyester is water, thus, it is a water-intensive product. • Polyester is highly non-renewable. Hence, it is very clear than hemp has an upper hand when compared to both cotton and polyester.

Hemp fiber has several advantages when compared to cotton. Hemp does not require copious quantities of pesticides (rather, hemp itself makes pests detest & avoid it. Hemp is also cheaper to grow and is much more durable. It consumes far less water (to produce 1 kg material, it needs almost 2300 liters of water, as against 10000 liters for similar cotton produce For every acre of land cultivated for hemp fiber, you will get up to 1500 pounds, whereas the count is about 500 pounds for cotton. Hemp is also more friendly towards the environment, as it requires almost no pesticide to grow – compared to cotton, which utilizes more than 15% of the world’s pesticides. In conclusion, hemp can definitely be a viable alternative to cotton in the days to come. There are still some hurdles – hemp cultivation is still not legal in every country, the industry is at a nascent stage, hemp fiber clothing isn’t yet as soft as cotton. But with continuous research & development and feedback from users globally, quality and production of hemp can surely be improved much more, thus positioning hemp as the fabric of the future
